Surgical abortion (more than 9 weeks of pregnancy)

The procedure of terminating a pregnancy through the vagina is known as surgical abortion. This is prescribed to women who are in their ninth week of pregnancy or more. Depending on the particular week of pregnancy, a different surgical technique is prescribed to remove the fetus from the uterus. On the basis of the surgical technique used, the actual cost varies

• Within 12 weeks of pregnancy- A suction method is used to pull out the fetus. The whole procedure takes 5 minutes to complete.
• Between 13 and 19 weeks of pregnancy- As the risk of complications is high during this period, the cost actually varies. A medicine is given to dilate the cervix. Once it is dilated, the patient is sedated first and then the rest of the procedure is performed. As anesthesia is administered, the cost increases naturally.
