Methods of Hair Transplant
Conventionally, there were two methods for taking hair follicles and implanting during hair transplantation-
- Follicular Unit Transplantation or FUT
- Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE
In a general FUT procedure, a team of doctors remove the hair at once and prep them for implantation. First, the doctor takes a strip of skin from the donor area and then closes these holes with stitches. After this, the removed skin is separated into smaller sections so that when they are implanted, it gives a natural-looking appearance. They stitch these into the recipient area. For placing 3000 grafts, the doctor may take about 4-6 hours.
In an FUE technique, the hair follicles are extracted from the donor area by making more than thousands of incisions. The rest of the procedure is similar to that of Follicular Unit Transplantation. For implanting 3000 grafts, it may take about 6-8 hours to complete.
Although both these procedures are performed under the influence of anesthesia, the patient may experience heavy bleeding. There can be some painful symptoms during the recovery and there is a high chance of an infection developing too. The main reason being that these techniques involve incisions. Moreover, hair grows almost 6-8 months after the surgery. In rare cases, the lack of sensation may continue for years. All these factors make these techniques undesirable one.

Best Hair Transplant Technique
Direct Hair Implantation or DHI is a type of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). In FUE technique, the doctor makes several incisions all over the scalp and implants the follicular units into these holes. While the DHI technique doesn’t involve any cuts or any incisions to implant these grafts.
Procedure of DHI
Here is a step by step process that takes place during the DHI procedure.
- The doctor either trims hair from the donor area (from where the hair is to be taken). The donor area is especially at the back of the head.
- After this, the surgeon injects local anesthesia into the scalp. This is to make sure that the patient is unable to feel anything else other than a prick of the needle.
- Once there is no sensation in the scalp, the doctor uses an instrument, DHI Implanter with a small 0.6-0.8 mm that helps to remove hair follicles without touching the hair grafts or the surrounding hair.
- The next step is processing hair follicles into grafts for implantation. The doctor does so in a clinical lab.
- The grafts are then placed in the Implanter again and then implanted in the bald area directly without affecting the surrounding area.
- The doctor can implant these follicles into the holes in such a way that the direction of the follicles can be determined so that there is a more natural appearance.

Who Should Consider DHI?
The ideal candidates for DHI include-
- Those suffering from baldness due to male-pattern hair loss but still have some hair on the scalp to donate
- People who have tried various medication but there were no effective results
- Individuals who suffered burns or lacerations thereby, suffering from excessive hair loss
- People trying to conceal scarring on the scalp
- Those who have undergone FUT and FUE technique of hair transplantation but got no results
Advantages of Direct Hair Implantation
Being the most advanced procedure for hair transplantation, the DHI technique offers several benefits over other techniques, both surgical and non-surgical. Pristyn Care clinics are equipped with the highest quality equipment that ensures 100% success of the results after hair transplantation. Here are some advantages that our doctors believe makes it the best method for hair transplantation.
No visible scarring
DHI is a non-invasive procedure which means there are neither any cuts nor any incisions. When there are no cuts, it means that there is no scarring as it occurs in the Follicular Unit Transplant or Follicular Unit Extraction. There is no formation of any small round scars in the donor area. In the DHI technique, the hair follicles are well distributed and therefore, there is no scarring. With the help of a special instrument used, also known as Choi, the patient recovers fast. On the same day, the patient can resume their daily activities.
Permanent results
As discussed above, the surgeon places and implants one hair at a time into the scalp that offers more precision and accuracy. The patient doesn’t have to shave the recipient area nor the donor area. The hair that grows is also thickened as compared to the traditional FUE technique.
Simple procedure
The DHI is done in smaller sessions hence, there is no requirement of hospitalization. This is a safe procedure with almost minimal risk of complications. Moreover, there is no damage to the scalp or the existing hair follicles as these remain unaffected.
Highest Graft Quality
Ensures more hair density than FUE and FUT types of hair transplantation. With these more high-quality hair grafts, the doctor can control the depth, angle and direction of the hair growth. Hence, these grafts used in DHI hair transplantation provide a natural look and permanent results.
