• The city where the surgery is done – Hospitals and clinics in metro cities generally have higher costs involved in case of any surgery, and skin grafting is no exception. Skin grafts can be broadly classified into two categories: split-thickness and full-thickness.

• Full-thickness skin grafts – In these grafts, the donor site’s complete skin thickness, including the dermis and epidermis, is used. Usually, the skin is removed from places like the abdomen, groin, forearm, and thigh that have an abundance of skin. It is applied to reconstructive surgeries when a long-lasting and aesthetically acceptable outcome is required. In most cases, full-thickness grafts are advised for extremely visible wounds. This type of graft typically produces superior cosmetic results and blends in better with the skin.
• Split-thickness skin grafts – Skin grafts with split-thickness involve only a fraction of the dermis and epidermis. Usually, they are applied to cover more extensive skin injury. In this method, the plastic surgeon often takes the skin grafts from the front or outer thigh, buttocks, abdomen, or back. Split-thickness grafts tend to be fragile and appear paler than the adjoining skin.
