A kidney stone is said to be large when it measures up to 5 mm or larger. Hence, a 9 mm kidney stone is considered large.

The most effective treatment for them is extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL), which is a non-invasive procedure. This method involves using high-energy shock waves to break the stones and expel them through the urinary tract. If it doesn’t work, then surgical treatment is considered.
